No. 2: Reading

Its about that time of year of the dreaded summer reading list. Personally and perhaps strangely I love reading. Here are my picks for environmentally minded summer reads.

1) Cradle to Cradle by William McDonough and Michael Braungart: Brilliantly well thought out and simultaneously frightening.

2) Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser: Where are food really is coming from. Also I have heard rave reviews for the new movie with research from the book entitled Food Inc.

3) Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer: A new type of coming of age story. See also the movie.

With two out of the three having movie companions it's almost like not reading at all. All can be found at Amazon or your favorite local book store (preferably the latter).

Mike

Youth Venture!

Youth Venture enables young people to learn early on in life that they can lead social change. Ashoka developed the concept of Youth Venture from understanding a key insight of Ashoka Fellows in the field of youth development: one of the most effective ways to improve the lives of youth is to empower them to realize their own ability to make positive social change.

Youth Venture thus inspires and invests in teams of young people to start and lead their own social ventures, and is building a powerful network of young changemakers across the world. It is currently operating in the US, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, India, South Africa, Thailand, France, Germany, and Spain.....

Content Drive

Sustainable Earth Solutions is Dave's organization to help drive his efforts to engage youth leadership. What we are looking to do is to document how the Environmental Youth Summit has changed lives. To do this, we would love to invite you to blog your memories of the summit, your resulting experiences, and encourage the sharing of whatever you feel is important that resulted from the event.

Blog Link: http://www.sustainableearthsolutions.org/Home/Blogs/tabid/84/EntryID/9/Default.aspx

As a big thank you, we're hoping that we could offer a $10 gift card from Starbucks to the person (or people) who posts the most topic-related blogs at the SES web site by July 1.

If you have any questions on how to access the site and post a blog, I can walk you through. Contact me at aarongilbee@gmail.com.
